MANDARIN ORIENTAL HYDE PARK, LONDON
Lavish guest room artwork that effortlessly exudes sophistication.
A new and exciting, artistic 'natural' lighting solution.
The epitome of luxury.
bedhead artwork
We supplied the guest room bedhead artwork for 2 out of the 4 sample rooms in 2015. Over a year later and after fierce competition we were awarded the contract to supply & install all of the artwork for the guest rooms.
As is often the case with refurbishments of historic buildings, every room varied in size slightly. This meant that to keep the same sizes between the wall panelling and picture rail / dado rail that the size of the artwork in each room must also vary sometimes by as little as 1mm. Every single one of our frames was cut and joined in house to extreme tolerances, rejecting any frame that was anything less than perfect - in size, shape and finish.
artificial skylight
During discussions with the client it became apparent that our experience in custom metal fabrication, acrylic work and light boxes could be applied to the artificial skylight in the bathrooms. With a completely custom made metal framework colour matched to a RAL code, frosted and fluted acrylic, an LED back panel and lightweight box construction incorporating specifically designed mounting points to allow for easy installation in the plasterboard ceiling.
In conjunction with a close contact of ours we prepared a full working sample within 2 weeks which excelled expectations and with a slight tweak to the fluting design on the acrylic we were awarded the order. Thus our contract grew, as did our responsibility and the logistical challenges that lay ahead.
This is a prime example of our flexibility as art consultants, the breadth of mediums we work with and also our practical knowledge.
VIP Spa Artwork
During the course of the project we were approached by the client and asked if we could create a floor to ceiling artwork with a hammered, antique gold finish for the VIP Spa.
Created in liquid metal by a skilled team of artists, we supplied and installed this beautiful & unique artwork on time and on budget.
The contrast between the antique gold ‘face’ and the patinated dark recessed design is both tasteful and dramatic - complementing the surrounding interiors perfectly.
statistics
Over 15 tonnes of framed gilded glass & luxurious wall covering.
Phase 1 was installed in 17 days spread over a 12 week period.
More than 2.5 kilometres of frame moulding used, the profile of which was specifically run for this project.
984 individual pieces of frosted acrylic, 50% of which were carefully fluted to be in keeping with other design cues throughout the hotel.
691 individually drilled holes in the glass for the Bedhead Artwork and the Suites (pictured). The Bedhead Artwork side panels house two wall lights and in the Suites the central aperture you see is used as a mounting point for a large circular mirror.
delivery, installation & completion
Organisation has never been so vital; deliveries had to be made 'on the minute', artwork had to be hung to the millimetre, both the artwork & skylights had to be absolutely flawless in every aspect of manufacture and installation.
We revelled in the challenges that this project threw at us and we are incredibly proud to say that not one delivery was late, not one artwork damaged, not a single piece was 'snagged' - we rose to the challenges and surpassed them.
Ultimately it was our persistence coupled with our unfaltering reliability and superior quality that won us the contract.
